Karen M. Slimak, MS - Chief Executive Officer, and Chief Technical Officer:
Ms. Slimak’s philosophy that business can and should be used as a positive force for change in our environment permeates all her work. She brings a unique blend of experience in business and manufacturing, and scientific ingenuity.
As Founder and CEO of Timber Treatment Technologies, LLC her goal is to propel TSL products, with their superb features, to be the dominant products in the treated wood, composite wood industries as well as to garner substantial market share from the whole house construction sector, by forging strong relationships in the lumber industry and the green movement. In the long term, her goal is for TimberSIL® products to return wood to the material of choice in the decking, siding, and roofing market sectors. She is responsible for the Company’s technical innovations including development of new technologies which will allow TTT to continue to be an industry leader.
She is also the president and founder of Applied Science and Technology International, Inc., a research organization that studies the relationship between environmental exposures, food allergies and sensitivities, and chronic disease. Her credentials in analytical chemistry and environmental toxicology include research and manufacturing applications for domestic, industrial, and military use. Her recent studies have established direct links between food sensitivities and environmental exposures and the symptoms and behaviors of autism and related disorders. Some of these findings have been recognized by the National Institutes of Health.
Ms. Slimak is also President and Founder of Special Foods/Custom Products a manufacturing company that has been in business for more than 20 years. Still in existence today and thriving, its genesis was born out of the dire need to save her son’s life at an early age due to severe food allergies. The medical profession did not have any answers so she single handedly created products which saved her son and many other lives over the years. The company now provides over 600 custom products distributed nationwide including foods, equipment, coatings, and special clothing.
Ms. Slimak has provided expert guidance and assessments to government agencies, scientific organizations, industry, and private individuals for over 30 years. She holds 30 US and international patents, and has authored over 50 technical articles and presentations. Ms. Slimak holds a Master of Science in Zoology with an emphasis on environmental chemistry from Oklahoma State University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Southern Nazarene University.
Her research interests range from the human effects of chronic exposure to volatile substances in the environment, and developing products that are totally innocuous.
