TimberSIL® Products are impressively low in maintenance. TimberSIL® is essentially an inert surface upon which paints and stains can be applied. This makes paints and stains last much longer, and virtually eliminates wood-related deterioration.

Most important, however, is to dispel the myth that any material is maintenance-free. For example:

• Vinyl: this has a life of about 10 years. Although one may have to wash and keep mold away during the first 10 years, the real maintenance is the complete removal and installation of the entire material every ten years or so. When this cost is added in, vinyl has one of the highest maintenance costs.

• Composite decking: requires constant care to remove stains and spills; scratches easily and scratches cannot be fixed, sags in the heat and swells in the rain. Installers tell us that about every three years, the fasteners for composite decks need to be retightened because the fasteners work loose.
  .
• Fiber cement products: take up moisture readily, and can sag and distort and fray in repeated wet/dry cycles. They are also prone to breakage from flying objects.
  .
• Even Brick and stone: over time the mortar weakens, and has to be re-pointed.

All things worth having take at least a little effort to keep them that way, even TimberSIL®.
